In January of 2020, the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy published a clinical practice guideline on improving walking speed and distance in adults with chronic neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury, and brain injury. Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) provide guidance to direct clinical decisions and establish best practices. CPGs are based on a comprehensive and systematic review of available literature and are meant to inform clinicians, patients, and the public regarding the current state of evidence and provide specific, graded recommendations to guide clinical practice. Due to the significant potential that CPGs can have on improving patient care, there must be an emphasis on knowledge translation and application. This presentation will provide a detailed investigation into the key action statements and research recommendations highlighted in the CPG, with an emphasis on ways to directly implement this knowledge into clinical practice using a patient case example.Expand summary
