Summary

This course will be a thorough review of basic immune system physiology, principles of immunotherapy in general, and a specific overview of the novel oncologic treatment of CAR T-Cell therapy. This treatment will be reviewed in detail in terms of its mechanism, targeted cancers, and side effects. Common side effects, such as Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome (ICANS), will be more thoroughly explained in this lecture. As this is a newer treatment, there is limited evidence on implications for physical therapists working with patients who may experience side effects of this treatment; this lecture aims to cover this topic based on currently available evidence.
