As the profession of physical therapy grows and plays a larger role in the medical profession and the health of our communities, we need to become more equipped to recognize and correctly manage ethical situations we encounter. Our aim in this course is to provide a brief overview of ethics, discuss the purpose of and review content from important APTA documents related to ethics for the physical therapist and the physical therapist assistant, and to demonstrate how a model for ethical decision making can help the therapist to take the corrects steps when facing a variety of situations encountered in practice.
